1901: The Austrian national soccer team plays its "Ur-Länderspiel" against the Swiss national soccer team, which, however, is not recognized as an official international match. The Austrian selection enters with two Englishmen as guest players and defeats the Swiss team, which was made up of Englishmen and Americans, by 4:0 goals. Many players adopt pseudonyms, wear wigs and stick on false beards to avoid being recognized, because schoolchildren in Austria are forbidden to play in clubs.
